WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Modern Animal is a boutique marketing and innovation agency serving mission-driven brands and traditionally-minded businesses. We're looking for 2-3 talented intermediate graphic designers to help support our growing client base with consistently excellent ad creative, email graphics, and product mockups.
We're hiring for two types of roles:
- A part-time staff position (W2) for a reliable designer ready to join our small but growing team, with regular weekly hours and partial benefits.
- Freelance contractor roles (1099) for experienced designers looking for steady, ongoing agency work with minimal admin overhead.
This is production-focused work (starting at 5-15 hours/week), with the opportunity to scale based on performance and workload.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design static ads for Meta, Google, and other platforms
- Create clean, mobile-optimized graphics for email campaigns
- Design stylized product mockups for landing pages and other marketing uses
- Deliver production-ready files that follow brand guidelines and platform specs
- Work from creative briefs and communicate with project/account managers
- Participate in occasional feedback/review cycles and revisions
- Meet deadlines and flag blockers early
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Hard Skills
- Strong portfolio of digital marketing design (ads, email, product mockups)
- Advanced proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator / basic proficiency (or willingness to learn) AfterEffects and Premiere Pro
- Advanced familiarity with Canva
- Understanding of visual hierarchy, composition, and conversion design principles
- Experience designing for Meta, email marketing, and display network ad specs, mobile-first layouts, and e-commerce
Soft Skills
- Reliable, clear communicator
- Organized with files and deadlines
- Comfortable working across brand styles
- Open to feedback and quick to iterate
- Self-directed, especially when direction is minimal
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
1. Part-Time Employee Role (W2)
Ideal for a designer looking for stability, meaningful projects, and long-term opportunity in a growing agency
Hours: ~5-15 hours/week with growth potential
Rate: $26.44-$33.17/hour
Benefits: Pro-rated paid time off, holiday pay, partial wellness stipend, annual bonus potential
2. Contractor Roles (1099)
We handle client management, project planning, and creative briefs so you can focus on design
Hours: Start at 5 hours/week with growth potential
Rate: $42.69-$53.55/hour
Designed for experienced freelance designers who value consistent projects and minimal admin overhead
CAREER PATH & ADVANCEMENT
We're looking to build long-term relationships. Designers who consistently deliver excellent work and collaborate well may be considered for more hours, creative leadership roles, or full-time staff opportunities as our agency grows.
